Wedgewood Ken Caryl Wedding | Denver, Colorado

Ashley & Matt’s Denver Colorado wedding was extra special because I (Darryl Ann) went to UMaine with the couple! Ashley and I took some biology classes together, and I remember Matt from the student section of UMaine hockey games. (we live for Hockey season at UMaine). We were super excited when they asked us to photograph their wedding. Especially since it was in Colorado – one of our favorite states to visit. We were so lucky that their wedding venue was so close to an awesome park with lots of red rock formations. Even with a rainy forecast, these two were totally game to risk the cloudy skies for some epic photos in the park. They even hiked out through some mud for a couple last minute shots. It was so much fun to be a part of their wedding day and catch up with some folks from my college days!

Colorado Adventure Wedding | Colorado Wedding Photographers

Fall Colorado Wedding | Intimate Mountain Elopement | Durango Colorado

Jenne & Robert’s fall Colorado adventure wedding in the mountains around Durango could not have been timed more perfectly. The first weekend of October saw peak aspen color and it was gorgeous. The rugged mountains dazzled with bright yellow when the sun hit them. Jenne and Robert planned an adventure wedding with their closest friends and family, and of course, their three adorable dogs. Their ceremony took place in a valley just outside of Durango, Colorado, with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains. Guests (ourselves included) were given a pin drop to navigate to to find the ceremony site – marked with a sign pointing towards a beautiful wooden arch. Jenne and her bridesmaids hid in the aspens just down the hill from the ceremony site. It was an ideal spot for some photos, and last minute notes in Jenne’s vow book. As the ceremony was about to start, Jenne’s father made his way to meet her while Jenne’s bridesmaids helped her along the small path to her “aisle”. Their ceremony was simple and sweet, with lots of happy tears, puppy kisses, and even a growler of beer. Proof that dogs should always be invited to ceremonies: when everyone cheered them on for their first kiss, their pups barked and howled right along with everyone. After the ceremony, we realized the sun was rapidly setting, so we stole Jenne and Robert away while their guests headed back to the ranch for the reception (and some tasty create-your-own burgers!) On our way into town the previous day, we had found a field with an amazing view of the mountains we knew we had to stop at. We couldn’t believe our eyes at how colorful the sunset was. Sometimes, it’s all being in the right place at the right time. I think we all had to tear ourselves away from the landscape, remembering there was a party to get to!

Ski Lodge Wedding in the Mountains

Blake & Brad’s Love Story | A Ski Lodge Inspired Winter Gorrono Ranch Wedding

Blake & Brad’s Gorrono Ranch wedding day was easily an early highlight of our year. But, oh, did we have an adventure getting to their wedding. Since it was a destination wedding in Telluride, CO, we made all our necessisary travel arrangements in advance – including flying in to Denver 3 days prior to make certain we would get there in time. As luck would have it, Denver managed to get a freak snowstorm the day of our flight, shutting down the airport, and causing a great chain of events that resulted in no flights being available to us until Friday evening. Oh boy. After a minor (ahem, major) freak out, we loaded our Subaru full, booked a couple hotel rooms, and drove the 21 hour road trip to Telluride to make sure we got there on time. In our business, you got to do what you got to do, and we take that very seriously. We arrived in Telluride just in time to have Joe’s favorite pizza – Brown Dog – and a nap before we met Blake & Brad and their guests for rehearsal dinner. We love being a part of destination weddings because it often means we get to be a part of a weekend of celebrations, and really get to know everyone. (It was a even more fun for us in this case since a past and future S&P couple were also in attendance!) The morning of Blake & Brad’s wedding we awoke to a small layer of fresh snow on the ground. A small taste of what was to come that afternoon. Blake and Brad got ready together, and then we rode the Gondola to the top of the mountain for a few photos, before we hopped in a snowcat to drive us up the slope to Gorrono Ranch. The whole experience of having their wedding at Gorrono Ranch was awesome. From snow cat shuttle rides, to the hot toddys and Irish coffes, to the outside ceremony facing the mountains. Nothing compared, though, to the emotion and joy evident throughout the day. It was truly amazing to be able to capture those moments for Blake & Brad.

Adventure Photography Sessions | Seattle Wedding Photographers

Couples Adventure Session Salt and Pine Seattle Adventure Photographers

Announcing Adventure Photography Sessions! | Seattle Wedding and Adventure Photographers

We’re so excited to finally announce a new session we’ll be offering – The Adventure Session! The two of us have LOVED shooting engagement sessions in National Parks like Mount Ranier, Arches, and Grand Teton, as well as numerous State Parks and other hiking trails, and we want to shoot in places like these MORE! Then, we had an inquiry for a couple who were looking for photographers to capture some of the fun things they were planning for their honeymoon (talk about an AWESOME idea!) and we thought, “That would be a DREAM! How can we do this MORE?” So, enter the idea for the Adventure Session! Our hope is Adventure Sessions will give us and our couples the ability to have their engagement session, bridal session, or day after session in more locations off the beaten path that are meaningful to them! AND it will allow us to include vacation, honeymoon or adventure photography sessions for couples visiting (or already living in) the Pacific Northwest as well!

Let me explain more about the specifics of an Adventure Session.

Adventure Sessions are for couples whose ideal location may be off the beaten path. Adventure sessions make the normal hassles of distance, time and convenience less of a concern. Adventure sessions can be used as an engagement session, day after session, bridal session, honeymoon or vacation session, or just because! Adventure sessions give you 2-3+ hours of shooting time, travel within 150 miles of Silverdale, WA or Seattle, WA, and includes extra hiking and/or other travel time outside of shooting hours. Adventure sessions are meant to be a little more open-ended, and customizable to fit your needs!

This differs from a standard engagement session in a lot of ways! Our standard engagement sessions (or day after/bridal sessions) include 1-2 hours of shooting/hiking/travel time, up to 2 locations, and travel within 60 miles of Silverdale, WA or Seattle, WA.

We want to be able to shoot you and your loved one at the summit of your favorite hiking trail, or at your back country camping spot. We want to hike out to your favorite beach, shoot sunset and then wait for the starts to come out for more photos. We want to tell your love story at a meaningful spot – however many miles it may be outside of the city center. We want to come with you on your adventure – hiking, biking, surfing, canoeing, or camping. We promise we won’t be third (or fourth) wheels. We know you can have pretty pictures in a park in Seattle anytime; we want to capture an experience, a memory, and an adventure with you that is as unique and genuine as your relationship is!

Pricing and availability for adventure sessions is heavily dependant on the scope of the session, so please contact us about your ideas! If you are looking into our wedding packages, any included engagement session or day after session can be upgraded to an adventure session as well!

2016 Adventure Tour | Seattle and Destination Wedding Photographers

Adventure Wedding Photographers Seattle Maine Kansas and Destination

Seattle & Destination Wedding Photographers 2016 Adventure Tour

We are Seattle and destination wedding photographers who frequent Oregon, Colorado, Kansas (Joe’s home state), Missouri, Maine (Darryl Ann’s home state), and the rest of New England for weddings each year. We feel so lucky as wedding photographers that we are able to travel all across the country making connections and photographing some of the best days of our couples’ lives. We’re already booking 2016 weddings, and our year looks like it will be full of travels! Since we’ll be all over the place, we thought a list of our 2016 travels would be handy to help you find out where we are. We like to call it the Adventure Tour! If we’re in your area, most likely we’re photographing a wedding or visiting a National Park (it is our goal to visit all of them in North America in our lifetime). Usually if you catch us soon enough, we have availability for a cup of coffee, an engagement session, an elopement, and sometimes a wedding while we’re in town. If you don’t see your state on this list, we are probably dying to visit it, and we’d love to have an adventure telling your love story. Whether it is near or far, on a mountain or in the water, engagement or wedding – get in touch! We have plenty more 2016 dates open, and we’d love to add more states to our list. Shooting weddings in Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Michigan, California and New York are on the top of our bucket list! Drop us a line here and tell us your story, we’d love to hear it. -Salt & Pine

Mountaintop Telluride Colorado Wedding | Colorado Wedding Photographers

Shyann and Yurik are two of the coolest people on the planet. When they contacted us to shoot their Telluride Colorado wedding, we were so thrilled to be able to be shooting a wedding on a mountaintop in one of our favorite states (and our first “official” destination wedding!) Little did we know we’d make two friends in the process, and go on an amazing two day adventure with these two in the Colorado mountains! Instead of a usual engagement session or day after session, Shyann and Yurik brought us downhill mountain biking the day before their wedding. We had a blast on the trails with them, photographing one of their favorite things to do together. You’ll never find these two too far away from each other, or an adventure. Yurik even proposed to Shyann inside a cave they discovered together on a hike in the mountains. For two people who love the mountains almost as much as they love each other, a wedding on top of a mountain was a nobrainer for them – they even set the date for their 8-year dating anniversary (cue Awwww…). Shyann and Yurik had their ceremony at the San Sophia Overlook, close to 11,000 feet in elevation, and overlooking the mountains surrounding the town of Telluride. From Shyann’s unique wedding gown, to the flowers she arranged herself, to the location, to the love story, everything was amazing, and we can’t believe we were lucky enough to have been put in contact with these two!

Shyann and Yurik, thanks for being awesome! We’re so glad to have gained two friends (and a new appreciation for downhill mountain biking)!

Telluride Engagement Session | Seattle Wedding Photographers

We loved this short and sweet Telluride engagement session with Shyann and Yurik. It is not very often that as photographers we get to spend the day before a wedding with our couples.  With Shyann and Yurik though we were there for everything from downhill mountain biking the morning before the wedding to the rehearsal dinner that night.  Since this was our first time photographing these two we took the opportunity to take them out 15 minutes before sunset after their rehearsal dinner and shoot what can only be described as the worlds shortest and most belated engagement session.  It turned out amazing, the light was perfect, and the location was gorgeous (you wouldn’t know by looking but we were behind a ski lodge next to a parking lot).  Everything went so well in fact that Shyann and Yurik agreed to ride the gondola with us to the top of the mountain again that night and make some photo magic with sparklers on the eve of their wedding.  Opportunities like these are only possible when we shoot destination weddings, and for Shyann and Yurik it meant they had much more than just wedding photos.

Telluride Wedding Day One | Colorado Wedding Photographers

It’s hard to believe just last week we were in Colorado for Shyann and Yurik’s Telluride wedding at the San Sophia Overlook! I know everyone is anxious to see what we captured on their wedding day, but for now, we thought we’d give you a look into the fun we had with Shyann, Yurik, and a few of their friends the day before the wedding. Shyann and Yurik are downhill mountain bikers, and although Telluride might be well known as a popular ski destination, these two prefer it in the warmer months, when the biking trails are open. The bike resort made a special exception to allow Joe and I inside the bike park to photograph Shyann and Yurik doing what they love; descending precarious, steep, narrow, rocky trails on bicycles at speeds upwards of 30mph. And they do it with ease. And even make it look fun! We had a blast watching and being able to capture their runs down the mountain, setting ourselves up near interesting obstacles and vantage points in the trail. We even took a short break halfway down the mountain for a few shots of Shyann and Yurik, and a group shot of everyone with their bikes! Shyann and Yurik biked the afternoon away until their rehearsal dinner, after which we stole them for some sunset photos, since we weren’t able to shoot an engagement session with them. After dark, we even took the gondola back up the mountain for some shots overlooking Mountain Village. It is always an awesome experience to be a part of a wedding day, but to be able to spend two days with a bride and groom, their family and their friends? We couldn’t be luckier.
